Staff Spotlight: Nicole Yates, Director of Guardianship

Nicole YatesWe’re excited to introduce you to Nicole Yates, Director of Guardianship.

Nicole started her career with Family Eldercare in 2018. Her journey with us began as a Guardianship coordinator and her passion for our mission and the people we serve inspired her to grow with us.

Nicole has worn many hats at Family Eldercare. Her experience includes working with the legal and estates teams, accounting, bookkeeping, and data management. Nicole says, “My journey with [Family Eldercare] has given me a well-rounded understanding of all aspects and facets of the Guardianship program which serves me very well in the director role.”

What does Guardianship mean to Nicole?

Nicole wants you to know this about Guardianship: “It always originates in the courts and requires an appointment by a judge.” She says it is often, “misunderstood and perceived as a quick fix for someone in crisis, but it is a legal process that can take years before an appointment is made.” She advocates for outreach to educate the public about the process and to make it easier for clients find more information. Nicole believes, “Guardianship serves a very important purpose for vulnerable populations.”

She enjoys working with Family Eldercare clients and being part of a team that is passionate about advocating for our clients. About the work culture, Nicole says, “I appreciate a work culture that wants feedback from staff and aims to incorporate it into policies and procedures.” She is inspired by her colleagues, her, “kindred spirits in the work we do.” Nicole has high praise for the strong internal support system that is in place and feels lucky to have the opportunity to know and work with such amazing people.

What does Nicole mean to Guardianship?

As much as she enjoys her colleagues, they are equally impressed by her passion.

“It is great to have Nicole taking the role of Guardianship Director. In her 4+ years with us, she has sat in just about every chair within the program and has had her hands involved in every aspect of the program. She is very dedicated to our clients and staff and a strong advocate as well. Her leadership style has made a comfortable atmosphere for staff to be part of a solutions-focused environment.”
