Pecan Gardens is a supportive housing community that was developed in partnership with the City of Austin to address the growing number of unhoused older adults. Opening in 2024, Pecan Gardens has 78 units for adults age 55 or older, who have a disability and are exiting chronic homelessness. The community is a part of the City of Austin’s Motel Conversion Plan and has recently become the first housing development in Austin, Texas to be awarded the Crime Free Multi Housing Certificate by the Austin Police Department.
In the Austin area, when someone is experiencing homelessness and looking for housing assistance and resources, they must be assessed through ECHO’s Coordinated Entry (CE) System and connected to providers like Family Eldercare.
