Family Eldercare’s Position on Affordable Housing

September 16th, 2022

Family Eldercare believes that housing is a human right.

Our community is facing a crisis. There is a housing shortage. And for Central Texans with a low or fixed income, the cost of housing is out of reach. The solution requires bold, decisive action to create deeply affordable housing options that prioritize older adults, adults with disabilities, and those at risk for or experiencing homelessness.

Family Eldercare is committed to developing more deeply affordable housing. We enthusiastically support policies and investments that increase access to affordable housing for people in our community whose incomes are below 30% of the median-family income.  We also believe that reducing barriers to housing is critical to meeting the needs of our clients. Housing inequality is directly related to racial, social, income, and wealth inequality.

Affordable housing has a direct impact on our clients’ health.  It allows people to live a safe and stable life. It is the first step towards ending homelessness. It provides a sense of community and inclusivity that promotes independence. Providing our community with equal opportunities to safe, stable, and affordable housing reduces costs to our first responders and healthcare systems, and has a positive impact on schools, businesses, and our community.

Family Eldercare is committed to expanding access to deeply affordable housing in Central Texas.
