Family Eldercare & Rainbow Connections ATX Stand United Against Hate

This past Saturday night, a 22-year-old gunman entered Club Q in Colorado Springs and immediately opened fire, killing 5 people and injuring at least 19 others. Thankfully, patrons of the club confronted and stopped him.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the attack on our Qmmunity.* It is especially difficult that this shooting came on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance, Nov. 20. We want you to know that Family Eldercare and Rainbow Connections ATX stand with Club Q and their patrons. Every person should feel safe and secure in their Qmmunity.

Through our program, Rainbow Connections ATX, we strive to improve the quality and vitality of life for LGBTQIA2+ adults. If you are feeling alone, frustrated, angry, or sad due to the shooting in Colorado Springs, reach out to one of the organizations listed below. They stand ready to help.

Resources available to the trans and non-binary Qmmunity are:

Trans Lifeline

Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT)

The difficult truth is that many older adults experience abuse, neglect, or exploitation—often from someone they know. We want to focus on one of the most common forms of elder abuse—financial exploitation. What is financial exploitation? Financial exploitation happens when someone improperly …

Older American’s Month

Older Americans Month was enacted in 1963, not just as a celebration, but as an urgent call to action. At that time, one third of older Americans lived in poverty.   Things have not changed much for many older adults since 1963. In fact, for too many, life has gotten worse. Recent statistics show disturbing …

80 Over Eighty Funds Critical Services

At our recent 80 Over Eighty fundraising luncheon, we came together to celebrate three extraordinary older adults whose lives and leadership have shaped Central Texas: Robbie Ausley, Emily Moreland, and Judi Nudelman. Guests were also moved by the powerful stories from Family Eldercare clients who shared how they  overcame hardships with our support. Thanks to …
