United Way for Greater Austin Slashes Senior Funds

July 19 we learned that the United Way for Greater Austin would be unable to honor their contract with Family Eldercare (and 21 other partner agencies) effective immediately.

This is concerning on a number of levels. Our community depends on the United Way to provide stable funding for the safety net of programs that serve our most vulnerable. De-funded agencies were given no time to plan, prepare or assist in finding alternative sources of funding. This is a critical challenge for our organization, and a crisis for others. For now we do not anticipate having to cut services, programs or staff. But, if alternative sources of funding and community support do not make up the sudden gap in funding, we may have to revisit those options at a later date.
