Golden Girls – Senior Housing Issues in Central Texas

According to the ‘Aging Service Council of Central Texas’, in 2010, 54% of Central Texas renters and 27% of Central Texas home owners 65 years and older experienced a housing cost burden, which is defined as spending 30% or more of household income on housing costs.

Our CEO and Housing Services Director, Joyce Hefner, had the opportunity to speak on the senior housing issues that are occurring in Central Texas with KUT. “Unfortunately, support services such as transportation and easier access to health care, etcetera, are not out there,” Hefner says. “So they’re having to choose … between giving up services and support in order to find affordable housing.”
