LGBT Cultural Awareness Training
Speaker: Cheryl Young, LCSW

Objectives of the training:

  • Identify the social, financial, emotional, and health issues faced by the older LGBT population.
  • Understand how these issues affect care and available services.
  • Describe the caregiver attitude and awareness that is important to providing quality service to all individuals.

Aging 101- The Aging Process & Aging Sensitivity
Speaker: Joyce Hefner, LMSW

Open to professionals and the general public

A lot of change is happening as we move into later life. Want to find out what is normal, what to expect, and how to respond to these changes? Join us for an interactive workshop to learn about normal aging and participate in activities that simulate the impact of these changes. This workshop is appropriate for those with minimal knowledge and experience in this subject. 

  • Identify aspects normal aging process (Psychological and Physical Aging).
  • Learn about problems or abnormal changes while aging.
  • Utilize experiential activities to simulate changes.
  • Discuss and describe emotional response to age related changes.
  • Discuss strategies to accommodate and engage with clients based on age related changes.

This training will explore the ways to assist a loved one in managing their financial affairs and protecting them from exploitation. Participants will identify ethical dilemmas regarding potential consequences of using each form of financial management for a person who does not have the capacity to consent. Topics covered include:

  • Powers of Attorney
  • VA Fiduciary
  • Social Security Rep Payee
  • Trusts
