Family Eldercare will give away fan drive t-shirts and prizes and guests can enter a raffle to win an HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook based on VISION Premium Technology from AMD, a 13-year supporter of the Fan Drive.
“The Family Eldercare Fan Drive directly contributes to an improved quality of life for thousands of Central Texas households, and AMD is proud to be a longstanding supporter of this worthwhile effort,” said Kristi Fontenot, Community Affairs Specialist, AMD.
Fan Fare Friday is hosted by 93.3 KGSR and KXAN Austin News; both will be broadcasting live throughout the day. The daytime event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to donate new fans (20’’ box fans or 12’’ or larger oscillating fans or tower fans) or funds to take part in the celebration. Funds raised during the Summer Fan Drive will go to the purchase of fans and air conditioning units for individuals and families who need help to beat the summer heat and provide other critical services.
“Since its inception in 1990 Family Eldercare’s Fan Drive program has provided more than 60,000 fans and 700 air conditioners to more than 28,000 households,” said Bill McLellan, Chief Development Officer. “Each year the Fan Drive serves more than 3,500 households and our goal is to do that again this year.” The Summer Fan Drive is supported by individuals, businesses, organizations and sponsors including AMD, KXAN Austin News, 93.3 KGSR, Documation, Rudy Belton/Belco Equities and many more.
Donations will be accepted all day at the Threadgill’s downtown location. The Summer Fan Drive runs from May 1 – July 31 and will distribute fans through September as needed, depending upon temperatures. Donations can also be made online at www.familyeldercare.org, at Family Eldercare or at any Fire Station in Austin, San Marcos or Georgetown through July 31, 2011.
