Elder Shelter

Family Eldercare operates 17 apartment units that provide temporary housing for older adults and persons with disabilities.

Eligible clients are over 55 and disabled or over the age of 62 who are in need of temporary transitional housing to leave an abusive or unsafe living situation and/or prevent homelessness.

To be eligible for Elder Shelter, individuals must have a viable plan to obtain permanent housing and be able to live independently. Case management services are available from Family Eldercare staff to assist residents with negotiating through the subsidized housing application process. Residents contribute to the cost of the shelter, based upon their monthly income.

A variety of options and locations are available:

  • Two of our complexes are located in North Austin, two in Southeast Austin.
  • Clients may live alone in a single unit or share a unit with a roommate(s).
  • Furnished or unfurnished units are available.
  • Clients will contribute a portion of income unless the fee is waived. Most options require the client to establish utilities in his/her name.

On-site management is not provided by Family Eldercare staff.
