On June 25, 2008, TMLT employees and their families donated enough money to provide 104 fans to help keep elderly and disabled people cool and safe this summer. Each year, Family Elder Care coordinates the Keep Austin Cool Summer Fan Drive, which strives to help keep elderly and disabled Austinites cool, comfortable, and safe during the hottest months of the year. In its 18th year, the program offers welcome relief to thousands of households. "TMLT and its employees care about our community, and we are always looking for ways to lend a hand," said Gail Nichols, vice president of human resources. "As a physician-owned organization, we are very concerned about the health and safety of those without fans or air-conditioning in this very hot Texas weather." TMLT employees also contribute to and volunteer for the American Cancer Society, American Heart Society, The Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas, Capital Area Food Bank, People's Community Clinic, and Project Access. TMLT's community service program has a mission to work alongside our physician policyholders to help improve the Texas community. Background Texas Medical Liability Trust is a not-for-profit, physician-owned, health care liability claim trust offering medical liability insurance products to Texas physicians. Created in 1979 by Texas Medical Association, TMLT currently protects more than 14,000 doctors in all specialties practicing in all areas of the state.
