LCRA Employees Bring Santa and His Helpers to Lyons Gardens

LCRA Team

Right after the lunch provided by the NCL, employees of LCRA also spread holiday cheer at Lyons, what a treat! This is the fourth year that LCRA employees have sponsored Lyons residents through the Holiday Giving Drive! In addition to bringing gifts bags for all residents, the group brings Santa and all of his helpers to take pictures with the residents before receiving their gifts. We are looking forward to more fun times as the group has already committed to sponsoring Lyons residents again in 2008!

Family Eldercare Thanks BMC and HEB Helped

Board Serves BMCBMC Software has been dedicated to Family Eldercare's mission for several years now, devoting their time and their dollars to help us provide vital services to our clients. As a small token of our gratitude, Family Eldercare held an Ice Cream Social for BMC employees at their office on November 8th complete with cookies, brownies and lots of smiles. We were excited to have the opportunity to thank all of the employees in person for their dedication to our cause and our clients. Thanks to HEB on Burnet Road for their generous donation of ice cream for the event!

Thanksgiving Blessing!

More than 30 older adults received a surprise this Thanksgiving....a turkey with all the trimmings delivered right to their door by the exceptional Family Eldercare staff members who care for them like family! Through a special donation from the Topfer Family Foundation we were able to ensure that our clients, who would otherwise go without, had a very special Thanksgiving this year. Their donation provided fully cooked Thanksgiving meals and grocery gift cards to many of our clients who were unable to prepare the meal.

3M's HUGE Food Drive Donation!

3M Food DonationFamily Eldercare employees received an all-staff announcement on November 19th that help was needed unloading a large food donation from 3M. Imagine our excitement when we laid eyes on over 1,100 pounds of food that filled an entire truck bed! Everyone joined in, unloading, unpacking and organizing the donation that provided food for our clients and homebound elderly adults throughout the holidays.

In just eight days, 3M's Austin Plant and ESD held the food drive and donated the non-perishable food items and over $500 in HEB gift cards to ensure that elderly and persons with disabilities did not go without this holiday season. We are so grateful for the incredible generosity of 3M and their employees and their dedication to our mission.

Austin American-Statesman's Season for Caring: Jimmy

Jimmy

For the last 9 years the Austin American-Statesman's Season for Caring Campaign has shared the stories of hundreds of families in need in and around Central Texas. More than $2.8 million has been raised to help support these special families and many others just like them. This year was no different. In November, 12 families were once again featured that were facing overwhelming challenges ranging from homelessness to cancer and other serious illnesses. Once the news spread, the entire community pulled together to help our neighbors in need. Through this, they changed one individual in particular who is near and dear to our hearts, Jimmy Northen.

By now, many of you know that Jimmy is a Bill Payer Program client of Family Eldercare. He is 63 years old, lives with a developmental disability and has been homeless for many years, living underneath a downtown bridge. Jimmy dreamed of having his own place, warm and safe, where he no longer had to worry about anyone stealing from him or bullying him. This dream seemed like it might come true after the Statesman's Season for Caring campaign featured Jimmy along with 11 other families in late November.  read more »
