How You Can Help

Our clients include both disabled adults and elderly people who often have no family and few friends in the area. The short regular visits from volunteers brighten their days and enhance the quality of their lives.

Volunteers are always needed. See below for some of our main volunteer programs and learn how you can help.

Money Management (Bill Payer or Representative Payee)

Volunteers in this program donate their time to work one-on-one with a client who needs assistance with keeping their checkbooks balanced, paying their bills, budgeting, etc. No experience is necessary and training is provided. This opportunity requires at least two hours per month.

Guardian Advocate

Many of our clients have no friends or family in the Austin area. Volunteers are needed for visitation and advocacy. No experience is necessary and training is provided. At least two hours per month are needed.

We require a volunteer application, background check, references, and six hours of training for Guardian Advocate and Money Management positions. You are encouraged to attend a short orientation to learn more about Family Eldercare volunteer opportunities. See below for more information.

Administrative

Administrative volunteers are needed to assist with staff support activities including data entry, filing, answering phones, and seasonal project support. Volunteers are needed a minimum of three hours per week. Desired Administrative Volunteer skills include data entry, good communication skills, organization, and an ability to work with minimum supervision.

Outreach

We believe in Advocacy, Dignity, Independence , and Respect for ALL! Our activities and programs support a quality life for adults with disabilities and the elderly. Outreach volunteers help promote Family Eldercare by distributing information within their organizations. This volunteer opportunity requires a minimal time commitment; just share our mission with the people you know.

Seasonal Projects

Family Eldercare's seasonal projects include:

  • Summer Fan Drive
  • Holiday Giving Drive
  • Special Events

These are volunteer based projects and the time commitment varies. Such events are a great way to connect with the community and support our clients without a long term obligation.

Orientation Dates

All those who are interested in volunteering are invited to attend an orientation to learn more about volunteering with Family Eldercare. Orientation is offered twice a month at Family Eldercare, 2210 Hancock Drive. For upcoming dates, check the calendar section of this web site.
