About the Summer Fan Drive

Family Eldercare’s Summer Fan Drive meets a critical basic need: relief from life-threatening heat for those who do not have or cannot afford a fan or air-conditioning. For over 20 years, the Fan Drive has been serving low-income seniors, adults with disabilities and families with children.

The Summer Fan Drive relies on the support of  more than 250 volunteers and 40+ community partners to ensure that thousands of requests are processed and fans are distributed promptly to individuals and families in need.  Thanks to the support of the Central Texas community, nearly 7,000 fans and 163 air conditioners were given to those in need in 2011.

Fan Fare Friday, the main event of the Summer Fan Drive, is held at the end of June each year at Threadgill's World Headquarters.  Come out to this celebratory day to donate fans or funds, or to listen to a few of the many live bands that perform all day.

The Summer Fan Drive also provides an opportunity to identify other unmet basic needs these individuals may have, such as a lack of food, housing, or medical care.  After discovering these challenges we are able to connect them to community resources to address these needs. Funds raised during the Summer Fan Drive go to purchase fans and air conditioners for individuals and families who need help to beat the summer heat and to provide other critical services.
